Grade 2 teachers and students model Common Core math instruction
May 16, 2013
Watervliet Elementary School teachers and students are featured in a new online video series developed by the New York State Education Department (SED) as a resource for educators throughout the state as they continue to implement the Common Core Learning Standards. View video (or see below)
The WES grade 2 classroom was among the first to participate in the SED video library project. Second-grade teacher Michaeleen Backus and special education teacher Molly McGrath are featured in a 12-minute video from SED’s Video Library that focuses on Common Core math instruction. The segment, videotaped over a couple of days earlier this year, specifically demonstrates modeling and tools for teaching three-digit subtraction problems.
The video library is an innovative resource for professional development with the videos that support teacher and principal professional growth and strengthen educators work with the Common Core State Standards. Through these instructional videos, educators can watch and study what developing, effective, and highly effective teaching and leadership look like in practice. All videos created to date are accessible through Enageny.org.
