Preparing for NYS grades 3-8 exams

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In approximately one month, our students will begin taking the NYS Assessments that they have been so diligently preparing for throughout the school year. This year the NYS ELA and Math Assessments will be only two days rather than three days as they had been in the past. The assessments will continue to challenge our students and serve as a tool for your children’s teachers to improve instruction and student learning.

The dates for the 2018 Grades 3-8 NYS assessments are as follows:

Wednesday, April 11 & Thursday, April 12: Grades 3-6 ELA Assessments

Tuesday, May 1 & Wednesday, May 2: Grades 3-6 Math Assessments

May 23 - June 1: Grade 4 Science Performance Test

Monday, June 4: Grade 4 Science Written Test

A few ways that you can assist in helping to prepare for your child’s success during testing include:

Go to bed early the night before each test date.

Take advantage of the free breakfast available at school.

Arrive to school on time. (Students should be here no later than 8:50 a.m.)

Wish your child luck and share a few words of encouragement.

If you have any questions about the upcoming tests, feel free to reach out to me by phone at 518.629.3400 or via e-mail.

Regards,

Mrs. Loida Lewinter
Principal WES
