Masterminds Team Updates!
April 2011
On Wednesday, April 13, 2011, the Hudson Valley Community College Office of School Programs and the Foundation sponsored the fourteenth annual Viking Challenge-A Game in Trivial Pursuit . The Viking Challenge began at 4:30pm with a reception supper and concluded at approximately 7:30pm. Version 6 of the computer game “Trivial Pursuit” was used. The questions covered many topics and were not only academic. Individual and school prizes were awarded to teams placing first, second and third. There were 12 schools that participated in Viking Challenge: Albany High, Troy High, Lansingburg, Waterford, Holy Names, Tamarac, Maple Hill, just to name a few. Watervliet team was able to win third place in a very close game. Our students won 2011 Encyclopedia Brittanica for the school and prizes for themselves. Our all senior winning team consisted of Robert Heffernan, Jacqueline Torrisi, Syed Hussnain, Tyler Gregory and their coach Yuriy Berin. More info
March 2010
On March 25, the MasterMinds team trekked over to Proctor's Theater in Schenectady for a videotaped game of "SCCC Presents MasterMinds." Schenectady County Community College was gracious enough to sponsor the event, and provide our team, and other local teams, with an opportunity to play the game on television. After having hair and make-up done by women from the Paul Micthell Beauty School, the team went through a short, taped, pre-game interview with a few basic questions about how they felt and what they were expecting form the experience.
Soon enough, the team was down on the set to play a match of MasterMinds against Gloversville High School, with WAMC personality David Guistina as the host and moderator. In a very close and tense match, the Cannoneers were able to pull away with a 190-155 victory over Gloversville - a team that won their own league, 9-2. Also, our students won 7 to 4 during a "Mad Minute" round. The post-production of the program is exp3tced to take about three weeks, after which time you can expect to see the match on WVLT!

December 2010
Our MasterMinds team performed
excellently during December 2nd meet at
Mohonasen High School in Rotterdam. The
Cannoneers played 2 games and won them both
with a very high 550 total points. This
outstanding performance allowed us to be

overwhelming score of 250 over 20. Our record after only two meets is 3
