7th Grade transition program volunteers at local food bank

On August 24, a group of students participating in the 7th Grade Transition Summer Program took a trip to the Regional Food bank. The students packaged approximately 12 cases of green beans (480lbs) and 18 to 20 cases of corn.

The 7th Grade Summer Transition Program is designed to help students prepare for the move from 6th grade at WES to 7th grade at WJSHS. The program gives them an opportunity to familiarize themselves with their new building, some of their new teachers and most importantly the whole new roster of expectations that are waiting for them at the junior high level.

According to program facilitator Mrs. Beams, the students were extremely well behaved and very proud of themselves. Many students asked if they could do volunteer at the food bank again during the school year. Also, several stated they did not think they would like it or have any fun working at a food bank and later decided it was really fun and they had a great time.
