Character Education organizes fundraiser for ninth-grader

Watervliet High School students donned everything from baseball caps to sombreros on Friday, Nov. 4 to raise money for a classmate who is battling leukemia. Ninth-grader Brandi red-Cloud Owen was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Upon hearing the news, Character Education students quickly became involved in organizing a series of fund-raisers to help the family with expenses.

More than $400 was raised during Friday's "Hat Day," which was the first of many fund raising events scheduled for the coming weeks. Students will be selling leukemia bracelets and ribbons in the next week, followed by a T-shirt fundraiser. Several more events are also being planned.
