Student leaders at Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School held an assembly on March 14 to honor the 14 students and three educators who lost their lives in the Parkland, Florida shooting in February.

At 10:00 a.m., students gathered in the gym for the Watervliet Rally for the Students of Parkland and Nationwide School Safety. Led by Student Council leaders and National Honor Society members, the students from grades 7-12 formed 17 lines, one for each victim. The student leaders held posters and read a short biography for each of the victims. The assembly concluded with a moment of silence before students rejoined their classes.

“Our students worked tirelessly to create a thoughtful and respectful event that memorializes the students and adults who lost their lives on February 14 in Parkland, Florida,” said Scott Emerson, social studies teacher and National Honor Society co-adviser. “We are really proud of the way everyone handled themselves during this somber event.”
