Congratulations to Coach Johnson and the varsity girls' basketball team for winning the Colonial Council and the Class B Section Championship and being ranked No. 1 in NYS with their 22 - 0 record.

Good Sport Kid

Congratulations to Jerrid Hudson the "Good Sport Kid."  Jerrid was recognized during half-time of the boys' varsity sectional basketball game Tuesday, February 21st.  His award was presented by Superintendent Dr. Lori Caplan.

Sheila Caminiti a 6th grade student from the Watervliet Elementary School was announced as the "Good Sport Kid" on Friday, February 10th during half-time of the girls' varsity basketball game and was presented her award by the Character Ed Club members Tom Szczepanski, Andre Williams & Schuyler Belonga.

Congratulations to Watervliet Girls Basketball Coach Gordie Johnson for picking up his 200th win Tuesday, Feb. 7 as the Lady Cannoneers defeated Albany Academy for Girls 51-35. Read more

Mark your calendar for Winter Sports Awards' Night on March 1st at 6:30 pm in the Watervliet High School Auditorium.  All modified, jv and varsity team members will be recognized at this time.  Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Watervliet Youth Football is holding a free football clinic at the Watervliet Dom for grades K - 6th.  If you are interested, please show up on February 12th, February 26th, March 11th and April 1st from 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm.  If you have any questions please e-mail Lou Spychalski at Lspychal@nycap.rr.com.

Congratulations to Kate Murray and Josh Veshia for being awarded the 2011- 2012 NYS Capital Region Physical Education Leadership Award.  They were honored at a dinner at the Century House on Sunday, February 5th.

Josh Veshia picks up 100th wrestling victory
Congratulations to senior wrestler Josh Veshia who picked up his 100th win during the Cannoneers' meet against Lansingburgh last week. Josh joins just a handful of Watervliet wrestlers to achieve this amazing accomplishment. Josh is pictured below with Watervliet Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lori S. Turnout strong for alumni wrestling event

The Watervliet Athletic Department hosted its second annual Alumni Wrestling Night on Jan. 11 at Watervliet High School. The gathering brings past WHS wrestlers and coaches back to the school, providing an opportunity for former teammates to get reacquainted, and helps promote the sport of wrestling in the community. read more and view slideshow

Money raised for girls basketball

Gordie n Bob Beston   Gordie with Team                    Thanks to the efforts of the Arsenal City Girls' Basketball Organization, County Legislator Bob Beston and Jim Gates, $6300 was raised for the Watervliet girls' basketball program, to assist with camps and other special program expenses.

Watervliet Brick Campaign - To order your 4 x 8 engraved brick please click on Vliet_Brick_Campaign_form.pdf.  The raised funds will go to the additional display cases and to assist with expenses associated with the donated sculpture by artist Keith Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia which will be displayed in the Hall of Fame room.  All bricks will be displayed near the new gym lobby entrance.

The Watervliet City School Athletics Department believes that student-athletes grow mentally, physically, and socially through their involvement in sports. Hopefully, this growth will result in a healthy lifestyle which will be prevalent throughout their lives.

Watervliet City School is governed by the New York State High School Athletic Association, Section 2, and the Colonial Athletic Conference, competing as a Class “B/C” sized school.
