Congratulations to WHS senior James Creaser for being selected Time Warner Cable (TWC) News Student Athlete of the Week for November 9, 2015. In addition to being a leader on the varsity soccer team, James is a member of Student Council, the National Honor Society, the No Place for Hate/Character Ed program, and serves as a volunteer at school and in the community. Fall Sports Night moves to November 4

Fall Sports Awards Night will be held on Wednesday, November 4 in the WJSHS auditorium beginning at 6 p.m. Please note the change in date from the district calendar.

Dine at Olive Garden and support Watervliet Athletics

On November 3, 2015 and again on April 12, 2016 Olive Garden on Wolf Road will be donating 10% of the restaurant’s sales for the night (max $1,000) to Watervliet Athletics. Mark these dates on your calendar and help support the district's athletic programs!

Interested in learning a new sport? Albany County to offer karate and lacrosse programs for Watervliet youth beginning Oct. 15

Watervliet elementary and middle school students will have an opportunity to learn a new sport for free beginning Thursday, October 15. Albany County is sponsoring free recreational programs for youth ages 5 to 14 who are interested in learning karate or lacrosse. The programs will be offered on Thursday nights from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Watervliet Dome on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 13th Street. New rules for home football games

To ensure student safety at high school football games, Watervliet school district officials are implementing the following rules for student fans who attend home games:

bullet graphicStudents in grade 6 or younger MUST be accompanied by a supervising adult or they will not be admitted to the football game. An adult is defined as a parent, a coach, a grandparent or a guardian.

bullet graphicNo one is allowed into the game after halftime.

bullet graphicNo re-entry is allowed for patrons or fans who leave the stadium at any point during the game.

We want to be respectful of our student athletes, our cheerleaders and all patrons who attend our football games, said Watervliet Athletic Director Michael Foust. We also want everyone to enjoy home games in a safe and orderly environment.
Admission to football games is $3 for all adults and $1 for all students.

Watervliet recognized and celebrated many of the district's great baseball players from the 80s and 90s, as well as recent graduates during an alumni baseball game on Sunday, Sept. 20 at the high school field. View photos

Siena tennis team to use WJSHS courts this fall

The Watervliet Athletics Department is excited to announce that from now until the end of October, the Siena College tennis team will be renting the courts at Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School (Tuesday – Friday afternoons and some weekends) for its practices and tournaments. The courts remain open for public use, however, we ask community members to refrain from using the courts during Siena’s practices/tournaments. Thank you for your cooperation.

Fall sports practices set to begin Monday, Aug. 17

Most fall junior varsity and varsity sports teams will begin practices on Monday, August 17. The first practice for varsity and modified boys and girls cross country is scheduled for Monday, August 24.

Watervliet Football "Kick-Off" meeting

The Watervliet Football program's "Kick-Off" meeting is scheduled for this Friday, August 14 at 5 p.m. at Watervliet High School.

Girls Modified Soccer tryouts

Girls Modified Soccer tryouts will begin August 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. on the turf at the high school. Tryouts are open to all girls entering grades 7, 8 and 9. Any student who is interested in trying out needs to have proof of a physical (within the last year) and a completed health history form turned into the athletic directors office prior to trying out.

Track open for public use

The new track at WJSHS is open for public use weekdays only between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. When using the track, please be respectful of facility rules. View track rules
