Youth Recognition Night

The Watervliet Youth Football League -- including players, cheerleaders, coaches and parents -- attended Youth Recognition Night during the Cannoneers home game on Friday, Sept. 16 versus B-P.

Varsity Girls Soccer team wears green in honor of Schalmont player

The Watervliet girls' soccer team recently traded their garnet jerseys for green to show their support for Davia Rossi, a freshman soccer player from Schalmont who was diagnosed with leukemia before the start of the season. The t-shirts included Davia's number, 10, and the hashtag #rossistrong.

Family and friends are invited to join us in recognizing the new inductees during the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Brunch that will be held during Homecoming Weekend at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 8 in the cafeteria at Watervliet High School.

The Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and brunch will be followed at 1 p.m. by the Homecoming Game as the Watervliet Cannoneers meet the Chatham Panthers on the gridiron. Letter to residents of 12th Ave. includes Fall 2016 home game schedule

The Athletic Department has sent a letter to residents of 12th Avenue notifying them of the dates and times of all home games this fall. The games may affect traffic, parking and noise levels in the neighborhood adjacent to the Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School campus. View letter

Welcome new physical education teacher Kelsey Logan

In June, the Board of Education appointed Kelsey Logan as physical education teacher for the Watervliet Junior/Senior High School. Ms. Logan will teach grades 7-12 physical education classes, as well as coach varsity girls’ soccer and junior varsity girls’ basketball. More about Coach Logan

Rules for home football games

To ensure student safety at high school football games, Watervliet school district officials are implementing the following rules for student fans who attend home games:

bullet graphicStudents in grade 6 or younger MUST be accompanied by a supervising adult or they will not be admitted to the football game. An adult is defined as a parent, a coach, a grandparent or a guardian.

bullet graphicNo one is allowed into the game after halftime.

bullet graphicNo re-entry is allowed for patrons or fans who leave the stadium at any point during the game.

We want to be respectful of our student athletes, our cheerleaders and all patrons who attend our football games, said Watervliet Athletic Director Michael Foust. We also want everyone to enjoy home games in a safe and orderly environment.
Admission to football games is $3 for all adults and $1 for all students.

Track open for public use

The track at WJSHS is open for public use weekdays only between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. When using the track, please be respectful of facility rules. View track rules

The Watervliet City School Athletics Department believes that student-athletes grow mentally, physically and socially through their involvement in sports. Hopefully, this growth will result in a healthy lifestyle that will be prevalent throughout their lives.


Watervliet City School is governed by the New York State High School Athletic Association, Section 2, and the Colonial Athletic Conference, competing as a Class “B/C” sized school.
