Energy Conservation Resources

As you may already know, our school district is joining forces with six other districts in the region to forge a new path in educational energy conservation. To date, we have already seen a significant reduction in the amount of energy used in the district.
For this, we  thank you. It’s the efforts of all district employees—from custodians and maintenance staff to teachers, administrators and support staff—that lead to the success we’ve seen in the beginning stages of this new initiative. During the upcoming year, we're asking you to continue your efforts. After all, reducing our utility costs will help keep funds where we need them most—in the classroom.

To this end, here are some tips on how you can support our efforts:

• Remember that this is an ongoing sustainable energy conservation program (not just a short-term green initiative) that’s expected to save the district thousands of dollars in the coming years.

• Review and adhere to conservation guidelines (.pdf file)

• Reduce your own energy consumption.

• Close classroom doors.

• Report malfunctioning equipment to your supervisor or the maintenance department. This includes equipment that’s running when it should be turned off.

 • Report water leaks, toilets that run too long or dripping faucets.

• Control lights and computers.

• Be aware that during off-school hours, the temperature in the buildings will be reduced.

We’re off to a good start, but we need your continued support and cooperation. Ultimately, the success of the program will help us save jobs, as well as important student programs. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask your supervisor or our district’s Energy Education Specialist Tom Schweizer (tschweizer@gw.neric.org).
