WCSD receives Sex Offender Notification from Watervliet Police Department
Aug. 5, 2011
The Watervliet Police Department has informed
the Watervliet City School District that a Level 3 sex offender has
moved in to our community. This information has been provided to us
pursuant to the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act (“Megan’s
Law”). Under provisions of Megan’s Law, we have notified the building
principals and district staff to be aware of this individual.
Information about this offender and others in our area is available on
the New York Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) official Sex
Offender Registry at
http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/SomsSUBDirectory/search_index.jsp. Or you can
find information through
OffenderWatch on the Watervliet Police Department’s web page.
The school district takes these matters seriously and makes every
reasonable effort to protect students from harm while they are in our
care. Our best proactive efforts as parents and educators are to work
with children, educate them about safe practices and supervise them.
We encourage you to discuss personal safety with your children and
remind them to travel in groups; be cautious of strangers; stay a safe
distance from a car if a stranger approaches asking for information;
report any unusual behavior or events to you, a teacher or other family
member; and never give their name, address or phone number to people
they don’t know on the internet or social media sites.
By working together parents, school staff and local law enforcement
personnel can continue to protect our children.
In an effort to save on printing and mailing
costs, the school district is no longer
sending Sex Offender Notification letters by
regular mail. If you are interested in receiving future notifications,
sign up for School News Notifier (SNN), or return to
the website's home page and click on the SNN logo on the left
side of the page and provide the information
requested. Signing up for the “district” notification will ensure
you receive this information in the future.
