Grade 8 earns Make Your Own Sundae Party for collecting most coins during Penny Harvest

Students in grades 7-12 collectively raised a total of $208 for the Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School’s Character Education and No Place for Hate programs through a Penny Harvest. Eighth-graders collected the most coinsraising more than $100 during the fundraising event and earned a Make Your Own Sundae Party. Read more

Anti-bullying initiative kicks off with series of positive events

No Place for Hate Anti-Bullying Program  kicked off in December with a series of positive activities for students. The No Place for Hate initiative aims to create a safer learning environment by promoting unity and respect and reducing bullying, name-calling and other expressions of prejudice in schools. Meet the Teacher Night is September 25

Meet the Teacher Night for grades 7-12 is Thursday, September 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School. Grades 7-8 teacher presentations will take place from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m., and from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. The presentation will repeat to accommodate parent meetings with high school and junior high school teachers. Summer reading is an excellent opportunity for students to stay connected to literature, to enhance skills developed during the school year and to gain knowledge. Ricky the Robot visits Watervliet Junior High School

In June, Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School welcomed a special futuristic guest: Ricky the Robot, a “humanoid robot” operated by the Capital Region BOCES’ Northeastern Regional Information Center (NERIC), visited with Ashleigh Rozell’s science classes to demonstrate the latest in robotics. WJSHS to begin offering vegetarian lunches in March

Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School will introduce vegetarian lunch options starting in March. The vegetarian meals will be will be available to all students and staff. The vegetarian lunch options will be served on the left-side food line in the cafeteria, while the regular lunch menu will continue to be offered on the right-side food line. Read more

Students express their voices through spoken word poetry

Watervliet High School students who attended a recent performance of Project VOICE at the Troy Music Hall are voicing a new-found appreciation of poetry and have become inspired to write their own poems. Read more

WJSHS lockdown drill completed

A lockdown drill at Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School this afternoon has been completed. The drill was conducted in cooperation with the Watervliet Police Department. Ongoing safety drills are required by the New York State Education Department, and provide good practice for students and staff in the event of a real emergency. The safety of our students and staff is a priority, and drills are an important way to practice and improve protocols and procedures.

WHS Student Council sponsors Movember fundraiser

On Nov. 3, a dozen or so faculty and staff members arrived at school clean shaven vowing to temporarily give their razors a rest and grow moustaches during the next 30 days (no beards, goatees or mutton chops allowed!) of Movember to call attention to and raise funds for men’s health issues. Transportation 2014-15

There are no changes to transportation all bus runs will remain the same for the 2014-2015 school year. Pick up times in Port Schuyler for high school students will remain the same: 7:15 a.m., 7:30 a.m., and 7:43 a.m. Elementary and high school arrival and dismissal times will remain the same, as well.
