Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School Summer Reading 2014 program

Summer reading is an excellent opportunity for students to stay connected to literature, to enhance skills developed during the school year and to gain knowledge. That is why WJSHS English teachers have developed reading lists for grades 7-12 and encourage students to read a minimum of two books over the summer. More information Grades 7-12 reading lists


Ricky the Robot visits Watervliet Junior High School

In June, Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School welcomed a special futuristic guest: Ricky the Robot, a “humanoid robot” operated by the Capital Region BOCES’ Northeastern Regional Information Center (NERIC), visited with Ashleigh Rozell’s science classes to demonstrate the latest in robotics. Read more


Junior High Student Council donates funds to worthy WES group

NYS Grades 7-8 NYS assessments

Bullying prevention event, free school supplies

Grades 7-8 students and their parents are invited to a discussion on bullying prevention with the Watervliet City School District’s new School Resource Officer Josh Spratt on Tuesday, October 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Watervliet Civic Center. Students in grades 1-8 who attend will receive free school supplies and refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by the Watervliet Civic Center and the Watervliet Elks Lodge #1500. Dodgeball Tourney set for May 8

Thirteen teams are set to compete in Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School's dodgeball tournament on Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children/students. Tournament  proceeds will go to the school's Character Education program. The event is open to the public. Awards will be given to the first and second place teams in two divisions: high school and junior high school. Teams will also receive awards for best uniforms.

New lockers to be installed at Jr./Sr. High School

Locker replacement, which is part of the Phase IV building project, is set to take place at Watervliet High School during the holiday recess. Students should begin emptying their lockers of all personal belongings on December 18.

WJSHS adds to ‘Kids of Character’ roster

Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School introduced a program last month that recognizes students for positive behavior and good character. In October, teachers nominated another 28 students as Kids of Character, bringing the total number to 59. Read more
