Meet the Candidates for the Board of Education

Two candidates are seeking election to two open seats on the Board of Education. Each seat is for a three-year term, beginning July 1, 2024. The two candidates, Heather Soroka and Kyle Daniels, are listed in the order their names will appear on the ballot.

Board of Education candidate Heather SorokaHeather Soroka, of 904 23rd Street, Watervliet, is seeking a fourth term on the Board of Education. A lifelong resident of Watervliet, Ms. Soroka is employed by the SUNY System Administration as an administrative assistant to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), Associate CIO and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). First elected to the Board of Education in 2014, she is a member of the Policy Committee and the district-wide Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). She also serves on the Capital Region BOCES Board of Education and the Tech Valley High School Operating Board. Ms. Soroka has three children: daughters Emily and Madison, both graduates of Watervliet High School; and son, Leo, a 9th grader at Watervliet High School. She also has a 4-year-old grandson who will begin prekindergarten next year.

Board candidate Kyle DanielsKyle Daniels, of 1108 24th Street, Watervliet, is seeking a first term on the Board of Education. A lifelong resident of Watervliet, Mr. Daniels graduated from Watervliet High School in 2021. He is currently employed by New Country Lexus of Latham as a technology/delivery specialist. Mr. Daniels served as class president all four years of high school, and was a member of the Cannoneers baseball team from 7th through 12th grade.
