Dear Parents/Guardians:
We hope this letter finds you and your families well during these uncertain times. As June flies by, we continue to find ourselves facing much uncertainty, and left with many unanswered questions. However, one thing we are sure of is the amazing people who live and work in this community! For the past few months, we have watched as children navigate uncharted waters. We have seen parents gracefully take on the role of educator. And we have seen educators strive to bring as much normalcy to students as possible.
While we are saddened that we will not be able to participate in our typical end of year activities like Field Day and Moving Up Ceremonies, we hope that we will be able to provide some sort of closure to our families for the 2019-2020 school year.

- Field Day Scores are due Friday, June 12
- Families and friends are invited to celebrate UPK Moving Up Day live on YouTube! Please join us on Monday, June 15, for this special day to commemorate the school year. View the virtual ceremonies via livestream
- Watervliet Elementary School’s annual Grade 6 Moving Up Celebration will be a virtual ceremony held on Tuesday, June 16 at 9am. The ceremony will include speeches and a presentation of Moving Up certificates to each 6th-grade student who will be transitioning to 7th grade in the fall. - Last Day of School & Report Cards posted to eschool parent portal – June 17
- WES personal item pick-up and Chromebook drop-off will be on June 18 and 19 View schedule here
Starting Wednesday, June 17, breakfast and lunches will be distributed at the following locations from 8-10 a.m. (until school begins next fall):
- Watervliet Elementary School
- Watervliet Housing Authority
- Watervliet Civic Center
- Watervliet Park between Stewart’s and Ted’s Fish Fry
As we continue to plan and prepare for the upcoming school year, we are hopeful to return to WES to continue our traditional educational experiences. We have a long road ahead including ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, as well as establishing culturally proficient practices and raising awareness of systemic racial and socioeconomic inequities. However, we are committed and are preparing for whatever is necessary to provide our children with an outstanding educational experience here at Watervliet Elementary.
