Family Outreach Coordinator

Position: 10-month position with an additional 10 days required over the summer
Location: Watervliet Junior/Senior High School
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: min.$36,000 per year (contingent upon continued grant funding)

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with students and parents regarding school programming, conduct, health and safety, academics, and social problems
  • Monitor district climate and national trends relevant to diversity and provide responsive leadership
  • Assist in the monitoring of students in a non-instructional capacity
  • Develop relationships and partnerships with and between students, families, and the school
  • Serve as a resource to parents and students
  • Meet with students and discuss disciplinary situations such as unsatisfactory conduct, problems in class, attendance, and attitude, mediation, and interventions
  • May assist parents with referrals and support from outside agencies
  • Take part and/or deliver ongoing training and professional development provided by the district
  • Conduct home visits and act as a liaison between home and school
  • Promote understanding of equity and inclusion among district stakeholders
  • Prepares records and reports as needed
  • Attend school events and/or other special programs
  • Other duties as designated by the administration

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of counseling, violence prevention, and des-escalation techniques
  • Ability to communicate school rules/policies with parents, students, and staff
  • Minimum qualifications: NYS Certification as a Teaching Assistant, Teacher, Social Worker, or School Counselor
