Substitute/Part-Time Bus Driver

Location: Watervliet City School District
Start Date: As Needed/Per Call Basis
    • $23.00 – $25.00/hour 
    • $33.00 – $35.00/hour – Weekends 
    • $10.00/hr. Pay Differential for Current Employees During Contractual Work Hours
Duties and Responsibilities (Illustrative Only):
  • Operates a school bus or school suburban on a per call basis or on special trips that may include some evenings & weekends;
  • Checks the operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip;
  • Reports any mechanical defect to immediate supervisor;
  • Maintains orderly conduct of children on bus;
  • May be required to perform minor maintenance tasks on the vehicle;
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
  1. Good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations;
  2. Ability to operate a school bus under all driving and road conditions;
  3. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions;
  4. Ability to get along well with children and command their respect;
  5. Mental alertness, dependability and good physical condition.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. Drivers must be at least 21 years of age and must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules & Regulations of the NYS Commissioner of Education;
  2. Possession of Certified Driver’s License with an “S” School Bus Endorsement; or Class C license with a “P” Passenger Endorsement;
  3. Appointment is subject to fingerprint clearance.
