April 16 Update: School closure extended to May 15

During his daily press briefing today, Thursday, April 16, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his NY PAUSE order will continue through May 15, meaning that schools and nonessential businesses will remain closed during this time in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. View the governor’s executive order that includes the school closure extension.

In the meantime, our school district will continue to provide online learning and support for students, free meals for students in need, and share information about childcare resources for essential workers throughout the extended school closure. We will continue to monitor all available guidance and directives and inform you of any further changes.

School budget vote and board elections delayed amid public health concerns

An executive order issued earlier this month by the Governor has delayed all school budget votes and school board elections in New York originally scheduled for May 19 until at least June 1 based on public health concerns.

As a result, the Watervliet Board of Education has postponed the adoption of its budget, previously scheduled to take place during the April 23 meeting. We will provide more information about the annual school budget vote and timeline when it becomes available.
