Important Information about Grade 5 Transition

(The following message was shared with parents and guardians of fifth grade students via ParentSquare on April 26.)

As the school year draws to a close, we are filled with both pride and nostalgia. Our fifth-graders have grown academically and socially during their time at Watervliet Elementary School, and now they are getting ready for the next chapter of their academic journey — middle school!

With this in mind, we want to share a few important dates we have planned that will support a seamless transition to middle school.

  • Monday, April 29: Middle school counselor Chelsea Gleason will visit all fifth-grade classes, share a mock schedule, highlight middle school opportunities, and discuss important upcoming dates.
  • Monday, May 6: A group of 6th-grade students will visit 5th-grade classrooms to share their middle school experience and answer questions.
  • Tuesday, May 14: Transition Night, 6 p.m. at Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School. This will be a dedicated time to tour the building, visit classrooms, and meet the middle school teachers. We will share more information in advance of Transition Night.

We are also planning for our 5th graders to visit the Jr.-Sr. High School during the school day on Friday, June 21 to enjoy some fun activities with their peers and meet the 6th-grade team. More information will follow.

As we prepare to bid farewell to fifth graders, we celebrate the incredible journey they have had throughout elementary school and look forward to the exciting adventures that await them in middle school.

Sincerely,

Ryan Groat
Watervliet Elementary School Principal
