Principal letter to WES families

Watervliet Elementary School Community,

It is an honor and a privilege to introduce myself as the new principal of Watervliet Elementary School and to join this extraordinary school community. I can assure you that as we begin the 2019 year together, I am deeply committed to supporting your child’s social, emotional, and academic growth.

My return to Watervliet Elementary School is bittersweet. For eight years I called room 214 my home as a fourth grade teacher. I then had the amazing opportunity to serve as the assistant principal of the junior-senior high school. Over the past two and a half years at WJSHS, I helped create the school store, collaborated with the teachers and staff on a new school-based mentoring program, and worked closely with administrators and staff to build a positive and supportive learning environment for our students. During my time here at Watervliet, I have watched your children – some of my former students – grow and thrive. I have made connections with families, staff and students alike.

Although I miss being in the classroom, my role as a school leader has provided me opportunities to work collaboratively with both teachers and students, as well as the community. I truly believe the key to any successful relationship is collaboration and a common commitment. Having been an educator in the district for over a decade, I know well the commitment that our staff has to the children and their success.

I look forward to future conversations with the staff and families of this wonderful community, and exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students.

In the meantime, please join me at the next PTA meeting on Tuesday, January 8 at 6:30 p.m., in the WES cafeteria so that I may introduce myself to you, and we can begin working together on ways to best support student achievement, school climate and learning.

Happy New Year!

My Best,

Kelly Webster
