Student Athletes of the Month – February 2026

Throughout the school year, Watervliet Athletics will highlight student athletes of the month who demonstrate good sportsmanship, exemplary athletic performance and achievement in their respective sports, academic responsibility and leadership.

Nominated by their coaches, our Athletes of the Month for February are Jah-Sir (Jiggy) Boyd and Trey Polaro.

Jah-Sir (Jiggy) Boyd: Indoor Track and Field

Student Athlete of the Month for February Indoor Track and Field

Coach Tyler Ronan praises indoor track and field standout Jah-Sir (Jiggy) Boyd for his drive, highlighting a tremendously successful season, and his commitment to elevating his academic standing this year.

“I asked Jiggy at the beginning of the season, ‘How badly do you want the success you talk about?’ It was rhetorical, and I said his actions from that point forward would be the answer. And his answer was amazing.
His athletic accomplishment aside, Jiggy has been much improved in his academics this year, in the quest to make himself the most phenomenal student-athlete possible. Athletically, Jiggy was the league and Section 2 champion in the boys long jump, setting school records, and qualifying for the NYSPHSAA Championships and Adidas Nationals. Jiggy was also the meet champion at the Purple Champions HS Invitational in New York City, and the CBA Showcase.”

Trey Polaro: Boys Basketball

Student Athlete of the Month for February Boys Basketball

Coach Marc Fruscio calls Trey Polaro an outstanding role model who exemplifies what it means to be a student athlete by being essential to the success of the boys basketball team throughout the season and demonstrating exceptional dedication in the classroom.

“Trey is a great role model that represents exactly what a student athlete is supposed to be at the interscholastic level. He has been an integral part of the boys basketball team throughout the entire season. Trey made a huge impact in the team’s first sectional win in the last five years. Along with being such an important piece on the court, Trey made high honor roll for the second straight semester.”
