Watervliet Elementary School students kicked off this year’s Buddy Classrooms program with activities to mark the International Day of Peace on Monday, Sept. 21.
Fifth graders paired with second graders, fourth graders joined first graders and third graders gathered with first graders to meet and get to know their buddies. Students learned about each other by asking questions — what they like to do after school, the color they like best, their favorite subject in school, and others.
After listening to a short book titled “Peace” by Baptiste Paul and Miranda Paul, students took out their crayons, coloring pencils or markers to create paper Peace Doves decorated with words or messages that represent what peace means to them, such as kindness, sharing, listening, helping, respect and more.
