Student Athletes of the Month – April 2026

Throughout the school year, Watervliet Athletics will highlight student athletes of the month who demonstrate good sportsmanship, exemplary athletic performance and achievement in their respective sports, academic responsibility and leadership.

Nominated by their coaches, our Athletes of the Month for February are Kaelyn Bagnardi, Leo Soroka and Aundru Woods.

Kaelyn Bagnardi: Softball

Student Athlete of the Month for April

Coach Michael Bendon commends senior and three-year team captain Kaelyn Bagnardi for hitting it out of the park on the softball field and in the classroom.

“During a Patroon Conference game against Maple Hill, Kaelyn went five for five at the plate, with a homerun and two doubles to knock in eight runs resulting on a 14-13 Cannoneers victory. For that she was voted Female Athlete of the Week in a recent Times Union poll. Kaelyn’s batting average is an outstanding .620 almost as impressive as her academic performance — a 97 overall average for the third quarter!”

Leo Soroka: Baseball

Student Athlete of the Month for April

Coach Peter Soroka recognizes Leo Soroka for his work ethic on the diamond and in the classroom.

“Leo is leading our offense this season with a batting average of .361, on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .949, and slugging percentage of .472. He leads the team in hits with 13 including four doubles, and 12 RBIs. Leo took pride in his schoolwork as well, earning an 83 average in the third quarter.”

Aundru Woods: Track and Field

Student Athlete of the Month for April

Coach Tyler Ronan proudly highlights the qualities that make Aundru a standout athlete and a positive role model both on and off the track.

“Dru has become an invaluable member of the boys track and field team. In addition to being a key member to our boys 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams, Dru also set the school record in the boys pentathlon at the Arsenal City PJV Challenge. Dru is coachable, hardworking, and strives to be a positive role model to young athletes. We are so glad that Dru has decided to join us for his senior year.”
