Albany Med EmUrgentCare to offer in-school telemedicine visits for students this year

Albany Med EmUrgent Care logoNew this year — we are excited to announce that Watervliet City School District is partnering with Albany Med EmUrgentCare to offer convenient, high-quality medical care directly to students—without them having to leave school.

Tentatively scheduled to roll out in September, students will be able to participate in telemedicine visits during the school day from the school nurse’s office. With parental consent, the school nurse can connect your child to a licensed urgent care provider via secure video to evaluate and treat a variety of common health concerns.

What’s included?

As part of this program, Watervliet CSD will be equipped with specialized diagnostic devices, allowing providers to conduct more comprehensive virtual exams—such as viewing the ears, nose, and throat—to support more accurate diagnoses and care plans.

Parents/guardians are welcome to join the telemedicine visit remotely and participate in the appointment, which gives you the opportunity to stay involved in your child’s care in real time.

The following are some common conditions that can be treated via Telehealth:

  • Sore throat, ear pain, pink eye
  • Cold symptoms, fever, asthma flare-ups
  • Headaches, nausea, menstrual cramps
  • Skin rashes, impetigo, scabies
  • Minor cuts/wounds
  • Seasonal allergies, sinus or upper respiratory infections

How it works

  • Services will be billed through your child’s health insurance. If your child is uninsured, Albany Med Health System’s Financial Assistance Program will work with families to ensure your child receives care.
  • On-demand telehealth services connect your child directly with a local medical provider to deliver quick and quality care. Most students (approximately 98%) are able to return to class after their telehealth visit.
  • EmUrgentCare will supply specialized telehealth equipment, COVID/Flu and strep tests and over-the-counter medications for a complete evaluation from the school nurse’s office. Remember, parents/guardians may join the virtual visits and observe as the school nurse and medical provider evaluate and treat your child.
  • EmUrgentCare is able to treat students with or without insurance. With Albany Med Health System’s financial assistance program, students can get quality and affordable care.
  • Your students are guaranteed to be evaluated by a local medical provider. If further care is needed, we will provide an expedited in-person visit to one of nine (9) convenient EmUrgent Care locations, or a visit summary to bring to your preferred facility.
