Five Watervliet varsity sports teams have earned the Scholar-Athlete Team designation from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). To receive this honor, at least three-quarters of the team must earn an average 90% or higher during the season.
Congratulations to our Boys Cross Country, Boys Golf, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer and Girls Volleyball on being named Fall 2025 Scholar-Athlete teams!
Cannoneer Teams Stats

In addition, 31 Cannoneers were named individual Scholar Athletes in recognition of their excellence in the classroom and athletic performance on the field, court or course. Students earn individual scholar-athlete status by achieving a grade point average of 90 or higher.

Now in its 33rd year, the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Program continues to emphasize the role of academic excellence within education-based athletics.
“The Scholar-Athlete program remains one of the most meaningful recognitions we provide as an Association,” NYSPHSAA Executive Director Dr. Robert Zayas said in a press release. “The dedication shown by these student-athletes, balancing rigorous academic responsibilities with their commitments to interscholastic athletics, is truly remarkable.”
