Nearly 60 students were inducted into the National Honor Society’s Ellen Bevins Chapter and the National Junior Honor Society at Watervliet Junior-Senior High School during the annual tapping ceremony on May 21.
In addition, longtime social studies teacher Scott Emerson, who is retiring this year after years of organizing the school’s tapping ceremony, was himself inducted as an honorary member of the National Honor Society Ellen Bevins Chapter.
Current members of the National Honor Society presided over the ceremony, including seniors: Jordan Dalpe, Bella Strack, Tyleonna Edge, Rabia Khan, Fiona Cheng, Iyanna Houston, Rachael Khan, Jaelyn Maldonado, Kylee Shellenberger and McKenzie Wasson; as well as Daniel Montanez Vargas and Anthony Morelli, who are juniors.
The ceremony celebrates the 23 students in grades 10-12 and the 36 students in grades 6-8 who were inducted based on academic excellence, leadership, and service to school and community.
