Each month during the school year, Watervliet Athletics will feature student athletes who demonstrate exemplary achievement in their respective sports.
Student athletes are recognized for demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout their respective sports seasons.
Nominated by their coaches in January 2024, our Athletes of the Month are Leniyah Leslie and Jayden Robles. Congratulations!
Leniyah Leslie, Varsity Girls Basketball
Coach Kelsey Logan describes Leniyah as a leader on and off the court.
“Fantastic month of basketball from Leniyah. She played great against Catskill and Hudson. She controls the offense and is a leader on and off the court,” Coach Logan said. “She had 21 points and 7 rebounds in a huge non-league win vs. Tamarac. She played well on offense while shutting down the best players vs. Greenville and Maple Hill.”
Jayden Robles, Varsity Boys Basketball
Coach Marc Fruscio applauds the work Jayden has put forward both academically and on the court.
“Jayden is a role model in the classroom and has made great strides on the basketball court,” said Coach Fruscio. As a sophomore he has started every game and has become a legit scoring option on the offensive end while anchoring a solid defense. On January 30 vs. Rensselaer he had a career high 15 points.”
