Watervliet City School District voters approved a $28.6 million capital project on Tuesday, Dec. 9, with 142 in favor and 90 opposed – a margin of 61%.
This tax-neutral project is made possible through a combination of 97.6% state building aid and $1 million from the district’s capital reserve fund – meaning it will have no financial impact on the community.
A second proposition to purchase land adjacent to the Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School’s practice fields was defeated by a vote of 100 (yes) to 133 (no).
“We appreciate our community’s support for this capital project and the impact it will have on our students moving forward,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Donald Stevens. “With voter approval, our District can move forward with plans for both schools that enhance and expand learning spaces, strengthen safety and security, improve energy efficiency and make essential building and site renovations. I thank our families and our community members for their continued support.”
