Update on voting by absentee ballot

School budget vote update: Deadline for ballots to be received by mail extended to June 16

In an executive order issued on June 7, Governor Andrew Cuomo extended the deadline for school districts to receive ballots sent by mail for this year’s school budget vote to Tuesday, June 16.

As a result, ballots being returned by U.S. Mail must be received by the district by 5 p.m on Tuesday, June 16.

The deadline for hand delivery of ballots to the district’s drop box at Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School has not changed. If you are hand delivering your ballot, it must be placed in the ballot box located in the vestibule at the entrance to Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School. Ballots being hand delivered must be received by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.

Qualified voters included on the most recent years’ poll lists from the Albany County Board of Elections will receive an absentee ballot automatically. Anyone who meets the definition of a “qualified voter” (18 years old, resident of the district for 30 days prior to the vote date, and a U.S. citizen) but does not receive an absentee ballot in the mail should email district clerk Bernadette Boardman or call 518-629-3201 to request an absentee ballot. The last day to request a ballot is Tuesday, June 9.
