Watervliet High School students make their mark in regional Career and Tech competition

Two Watervliet High School students were part of winning teams that earned spots on the podium in recent SkillsUSA competition in Albany!

Junior Makenzie Ryan competed as a member of the first-place team in Crime Scene Investigation (photo, center podium). Following their success in the regional contest, Makenzie’s team, whose other student members are from the Shenendehowa and Guilderland school districts, will advance to the upcoming state SkillsUSA competition on April 22-24 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

Both Makenzie and Rabia are enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education Center in Albany.Two Watervliet students stand on podium with team members after finishing first and second place in the regional Skills USA contest.

A total of 450 students — the most ever for the regional competition — demonstrated their expertise in electrical wiring, public speaking, automotive repair, job interviewing, cooking and many other disciplines. They competed against their peers from Questar III BOCES and several other BOCES during a daylong event at the Career & Technical Education Center’s Albany Campus, as well as Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) and the International Union of Operating Engineers training facility in Albany.
