Watervliet High School senior Jessenia George was recently selected a Section 2 Girls Basketball Scholar-Athlete for her leadership on the court and for academic excellence in the classroom.
With a grade point average (GPA) of 96.4%, Jessenia is an honors student who plans to attend Hudson Valley Community College next year before transferring to a 4-year school.
Jessenia has been a member of the Lady Cannoneers varsity basketball squad for all four years of high school, serving as team captain this past season. Her basketball career began in 7th grade as a member of the JV team.
In addition to basketball and volleyball, Jessenia participates in many different extracurricular clubs and activities, including Jazz Band, Student Council, National Honor Society and the GSA, a new club this year at WHS. She also serves as president of the Class of 2024, is a voice on the school’s morning announcements, and is a facilitator for the Elevating Student Voices initiative through Capital Region BOCES.
