Thirteen high school seniors spent part of the day on Thursday, May 28 at Watervliet City Hall and other government buildings to learn about the responsibilities of elected officials and municipal workers in the city.
Youth Day is a longstanding tradition that brings together students and city officials — including the mayor, council members, general manager, finance director, police and fire chiefs, judge and others — for an insider’s perspective into city operations.
Students toured the police and fire departments, and participated in a mock city council meeting, where they shared what they learned and saw during the job shadow with officials.
Each year, members of the senior class vote on which student delegates to send to this enduring tradition between the city and the high school. This year’s delegates included:
