Principal letter about January exams and review classes

Dear Parents, Students and Guardians,

As the mid-year approaches, our teachers and staff are planning for January Regents, mid-terms and mandatory review sessions. I met with each student eligible to take a January Regents to discuss the importance of review classes and putting forth their best effort. If your child is slated to take a January Regents, I ask that you strongly encourage your child to attend the review sessions, which will help prepare them to be successful on the exams. A link to the Regents review schedule is be posted on our high school web page.

Please take a close look at each department as each teacher has provided a detailed schedule of their review sessions, including dates, times, and in some cases topics or concepts.

Please note: School is not in session Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. High school students may be scheduled to take a mid-term, a Regents exam and/or attend a review session on Tuesday, January 21 through Friday, January 24. Junior high school students are in regular session during Regents week as they, too, will be taking midterm exams in preparation for the New York state assessments.

We have included a schedule, below, that clearly indicates the dates and times of each exam, as well as a bus schedule. Please be sure to carefully review the schedule to ensure your child attends. Please be aware that no make-up exams will be administered for Regents, however, midterms can be made up on Friday, January 24.

Attention Career and Technical Education (CTE) students will not be in session on Monday, January 20, 2020. Unless they are slated to take a January Regents, they will be in regular session at the CTE campus on Tuesday, January 22 through Friday, January 25.

High school students, grades 9-12 will attend only if they are scheduled for an exam or review session. High school students are expected to be on time to exams. Morning exams begin promptly at 8 a.m. and afternoon exams begin at 12 p.m. Students are required to sit for a minimum of two hours for all Regents exams. All book bags, backpacks, purses, cell phones and other electronic devices will not be allowed into the testing area. If an electronic device is found in the testing area, the student will be removed and his/her test will be disqualified. If a student brings any of these items to school, the items will be retained in the front office; however, the school district will not be responsible for electronic or valuable personal items. All valuable items should be left at home.

Students will be permitted to use our office phones to make arrangements for transportation, if necessary. Buses will run their regular morning routes. In addition to the regular routes, we will offer shuttles at 10:15 a.m., 11 a.m., 2:20 p.m. and 3 p.m. bus at the conclusion of morning and afternoon testing sessions.

A healthy breakfast and lunch will be served each day. Please be sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and comes prepared to do their best! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the guidance office at 518-629-3302.
