Screening children for lead exposure

New York State requires that all children between the ages of 1 year old up to 6 years old be screened for lead levels and the test results be provided within three (3) months of their enrollment in a public school program. Exposure to lead can result in serious health damage to young children and cause educational difficulties.

If your child has been tested by their pediatrician, please have the results sent to the elementary school via fax at 518-273-5312.

If your child has not been tested for lead exposure, please contact your healthcare provider about testing or you may schedule an appointment for the screening to be performed by the Whitney Young School-Based Health Center at Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School. Call 518-925-5304 for an appointment.

We encourage you to visit the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website for more information regarding lead exposure and poisoning. Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program | CDC

Please call the WES nurse’s office at 518-629-3402, if you have any questions.
