Throughout the school year, Watervliet Athletics will feature student athletes who demonstrate exemplary achievement in their respective sports.
Student athletes are recognized for demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout their respective sports seasons.
Nominated by their coaches, our Athletes of the Month for April are Lily Donnelly, Anthony Morelli and Jack Sierra.
Softball: Lily Donnelly
Varsity Softball Coach Michael Bendon recognizes ninth-grader Lily Donnelly for always supporting her teammates and for her strong work ethic.
“Lily is an athlete who does whatever it takes to win and encourages the entire team to do the same. Lily always tries to help her teammates when things aren’t going great and congratulates them when they make a good play.” — Coach Bendon
Track and Field: Anthony Morelli
Coach Tyler Ronan applauds 10th grader Anthony Morelli’s grit and his team spirit.
“Anthony has been battling on and off hamstring injuries since January. During the month of April, Anthony committed to fully mending his body, while still supporting his teammates in any capacity. He was able to persevere and was a key piece of team dual meet victories over Catskill, Greenville and Hudson.” — Coach Ronan
Baseball: Jack Sierra
Varsity Baseball Coach Peter Soroka commends 11th grader Jack Sierra’s leadership skills and his character.
“Jack is a fine student-athlete who is a leader on and off the field, his maturity and character are great examples for our program and school.” — Coach Soroka
