Update on COVID-19 health and safety protocols in schools

By now you have likely heard that many of the restrictions put in place across New York as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are changing. That said, it is important to note that to date, most of the health and safety precautions in place for schools remain unchanged by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). Face coverings (i.e., masks) must be worn by all students, staff and visitors at all times in school buildings, when on school property and while riding the bus to and from school. This applies to fully vaccinated individuals.

Face coverings also must continue to be worn when outside at athletic events, on playgrounds at recess and during end-of-year activities and ceremonies that take place on school grounds.

Other requirements that remain in place at school facilities, per the NYSDOH, include:

  • Social distancing of six (6) feet
  • Daily health attestations

These protocols are in place for all students, staff and visitors, regardless of vaccination status.

Please know that we continue to work closely with our local health department as we monitor any updated guidance from the NYSDOH. As guidance and protocols change, we will provide updates accordingly.
