WCSD welcomes new teachers, staff

Watervliet City Schools welcomed nearly a dozen new faculty and staff members during staff orientation on Monday, August 30.

picture of new teachers standing with hands raised taking oathOur newest educators began their busy day with remarks from Assistant Superintendent Don Stevens, followed by an opportunity to meet their mentors. Next the new faculty and staff members boarded a school bus for a tour of the city. When they returned, Superintendent Dr. Lori Caplan shared some words of advice before administering the oath to new teachers and staff. Then it was on to building level meetings with principals and lunch courtesy of the Watervliet Teachers Association.

We welcome the following new teachers and staff to Watervliet Elementary School:

  • Andrew Cowie, Music
  • Beth Jones, Teaching Assistant
  • Leah Karn, Grade 5 Long-Term Sub
  • Jordan Peluso, Grade 3 Long-Term Sub
  • Laura Zasada, Social Worker

We welcome the following new teachers and staff to Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School:

  • Michaela Bissonette, Social Studies
  • Hilary Boyer, Music
  • Ryan Donlon, Building Sub
  • Jacob Hardy, Physical Education Sub
  • Dylan Lukowski, English Language Arts Sub
  • Carrie Ann Swift-Huntley, Chemistry
