Throughout the school year, Watervliet Athletics will highlight student athletes of the month who demonstrate good sportsmanship, exemplary athletic performance and achievement in their respective sports, academic responsibility and leadership.
Nominated by their coaches, our Athletes of the Month for November are Kianthony Santiago, Jordan Valo and Madalyn Wells.
Kianthony Santiago: Indoor Track and Field

Coach Tyler Ronan describes senior Kianthony Santiago as a leader who represents the track program with excellence.
“Ki not only excels in the classroom but also steps up as a leader in the track program every day. He was recently named captain of the team for his ability to lead by example and set the tone for excellence that the boys’ program has set for the upcoming season. We are incredibly excited to have him on the squad this winter.”
Jordan Valo: Boys Basketball

Coach Marc Fruscio commends senior Jordan Valo for his academic performance, his respectful demeanor and his persistent efforts toward continuous improvement on the basketball court and in the classroom.
“Jordan has been a great addition to the basketball program this year. He made high honor roll the first marking period and his attendance has dramatically improved. Jordan strives to meet the coaches’ expectations by greeting adults in passing, being respectful to his teammates and giving his best effort on a daily basis. We are looking forward to watching Jordan grow on the basketball court, in the classroom, and in the community as he prepares for life after Watervliet at the end of the school year.”
Madalyn Wells: Cheerleading

Coach Paige Martin recognizes Madalyn Wells for her outstanding commitment, leadership, and school spirit throughout her many years on the cheer squad.
“Madalyn has selflessly and wholeheartedly dedicated many years to cheer. She is a leader both on and off the court. She has been on the varsity cheer team and acted as a captain for six years. She encourages her teammates and truly embodies what it means to be a Cannoneer.”
